I don’t normally photograph wildlife, much as I love it. It’s a patience thing, and I have enormous respect for wildlife photographers, whose work I always enjoy following.

My photography is usually about people—observing, waiting, and capturing those small moments that reveal something about the human experience. Every now and then, though, nature has other ideas. These puffins, photographed on the Isle of Staffa in Scotland, were impossible to ignore. They brought a smile to my face and remain one of the standout moments of pure joy from my travels.

Travelling by boat from the Isle of Mull , the trip allows for the visit to the Isle of Staffa and Iona , where the sea is emerald green. You won’t regret it.
