Running in Spain
Spain is a country we know and love, having spent the best part of ten winters there. It's a wonderful country, full of vibrancy and colour, with people who warmly reciprocate any effort to speak the language and embrace their culture. Life is different there, of course. The day starts and finishes later, and much of this is designed to cope with the heat, with the siesta still observed in many places.
It can be incredibly hot, especially in summer. In places such as Seville, temperatures can reach 50°C – far too hot for us, which is why we prefer to visit during the autumn/winter period.
We last visited during the winters of 2025 and 2026, taking part in several 10K races, both in the mornings and the evenings.

Running in Spain is very popular , as with all sports they through themselves into it with a Hispanic passion that electrifies the atmosphere . In expensive and inclusive the locations respond , lining the routes and playing music and cheering in what were in comparison small events. These were the equivalent of English Running Club events , and as in Britain put together by non replaceable volunteers who selflessly put themselves forward to do work for the love of the sport and community. Surprisingly Nordic walking is a thing here , check out the video below.
Local events in Spain aren’t expensive , if you avoid the big events like the big City marathons , usual between 10-20 € including usually T shirt and medals and often beer and food in the runners village . Running hospitality at it’s best.
Events can be found on line , they are popular though and usually sell out a few days before the day.
